Dr. Sherif Abu Elnaga
Dr. Sherif Abouelnaga is a Professor of Pediatric Oncology in Cairo, Egypt receiving his education through the Cairo University and the National Cancer Institute in Egypt. Dr. Sherif has had over 25 years experience in pediatric oncology as well as a broad experience in program development and has been the visionary and driving force of the Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357, the first children’s cancer hospital in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East. Dr. Sherif led the change for upgrading standards of healthcare for pediatric oncology patients at the National Cancer Institute in Cairo. He adopted the most current business and healthcare management techniques believing that management is a science whose techniques must be applied in the overburdened healthcare system existing in Egypt. His passion for improving the lives of Egyptian children with cancer has lead him into tackling many issues from the development of the first clinical pharmacies in Egypt, upgrading blood bank and donor programs, creating the proper tools and process for statistical gathering, fundraising, marketing, training and continuing professional development for all disciplines and levels of staff, clinical research, to facility design and program implementation. His most significant achievement is the state of the art Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357 which was opened in 2007 after 10 years of planning and construction. The 187 bed facility is the largest children’s cancer hospital in the world, is completely free for all patients and has been built and is being sustained completely by donations. As the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Research and Outreach and the Executive Director of Fundraising, Dr. Sherif has developed comprehensive programs and strategies in training, research and fundraising to ensure the position of the CCHE as a leader in quality healthcare delivery. He is the acknowledged leader in developing an entirely new concept of fundraising in Egypt and is responsible for raising over 2 billion LE for his various healthcare projects in the last 25 years. - Areas of expertise: Pediatric hematology/oncology Administrative capabilities Clinical pharmacy Change management Strategic planning Fundraising Marketing Program development and implementation Winner of the El Ghomeraya 2009 Medal of Science Award. - Most significant achievements: 1. The visionary and primary person responsible for the concept, design, funding, implementation of the Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357 project which is a 100 million USD state of the art hospital which is serving the needs for children with cancer regardless of their ability to pay, race, or creed that has been built completely by donations and is being sustained by donations. 2. As the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Research and Outreach for the Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt, Dr. Sherif has created new standards in training and professional development for all levels of hospital staff as well as establishing a centre of excellence for clinical research, health care policy, and health management. 3. Concept, funding and implementation of the first digitized hospital in Egypt. 4. Development of the pediatric oncology program at the National Cancer Institute in Cairo from 16 beds to 110 beds over a period of 10 years. 5. Fundraising over a billion LE since 1984 for the improvement of care and facilities for patients. Currently, Dr. Sherif holds the position of Executive Director Fundraising, Children’s Cancer Hospital Foundation. 6. Concept, design, funding and implementation of 11 clinical pharmacies in Egypt . 7. Founder of the Association of Friends of the National Cancer Institute in 1997 to establish a more organized approach to fundraising and creating the vehicle to build the first dedicated children’s cancer hospital in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East completely by donation. - Current major projects : 1. CCHF major expansion worth 600 million dollars. (350 bed expansion, state of the neuroscience unit, research institute, health sciences academy, and radiology unit) 2. Proton therapy unit ( first in Egypt and Africa) . 3. 700 bed guest house accommodating light care patients and 150 bed hospice. 4.
