Ms. Kristina Mejo
Kristina Mejo is the Regional Liaison and Policy Officer and Regional Gender Focal Point for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Middle East and North Africa, based in Cairo. She joined in August 2017 after serving 2.5 years as IOM’s first accredited Chief of Mission in Burundi. In Burundi, Kristina coordinated the mission’s activities which included a robust humanitarian portfolio, promoting Labour Migration programmes, Counter Trafficking initiatives, Migration Health and Border Management.
Previously, Kristina worked at the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok as a Regional Project Development Officer and Regional Gender Focal Point from 2012-2015, working with missions in developing national and/or regional proposals, and was a Regional Trainer for Project Development and Implementation rollout for the region. Prior to that, Kristina implemented a variety of national and regional programmes in the areas of Labour Migration, Facilitated Migration, and Technical Cooperation in her over 14 years with IOM serving in Brussels, Bogota, Dhaka, Bangkok and Bujumbura. Kristina has also worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Labour Organization and the Peace Corps in her eighteen years working internationally. She has a Masters in International Relations from the University of Kent at Canterbury, a Bachelors of Arts in Government and French Studies from Smith College in Massachusetts, USA and is originally from Washington State, United States.
