Mr. Amr Taha


Head of Office – IOM Egypt

Before moving to Egypt as the IOM Head of Office, MrAmr TAHA was the Emergency Coordinator (2010-2011) and later Field Coordinator in the area of Transition and Recovery in IOM’s Mission to Yemen (2011-2013), Human Security and Stabilization Officer in IOM Mission in Sarajevo Bosnia-Herzegovina (2008-2010), Emergency and Post-Crisis Officer in IOM headquarters in Geneva (2005-2006), Project Manager in the area of Assisted Return and Reintegration in IOM Mission in Afghanistan (2003-2004), and Community Development Specialist in Kosovo (2001-2003). In between, he undertook several short-term assignments in Bahrain, Bangladesh, Jordan, Lebanon, occupied Palestinian territories, Sudan (Darfur), amongst others.

Prior to joining IOM in 2000 as a Logistics Advisor to the Kosovo Protection Corps with IOM Kosovo, Mr. Taha was with the UN in the occupied Palestinian territories; he also served with a number of NGOs, CSOs and CBOs working predominantly in the field of migration. Mr Taha is also a qualified trainer on Camp Management and Camp Coordination (CCCM) as well as Disarmament Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR).

Mr. Taha graduated from John Cabot American University in Rome, Italy, in 1996 with a degree in Political Science, and holds a post-graduate Diploma in Migration and Refugee Studies from the American University in Cairo. He contributed to several publications and delivered numerous lectures on topics related to emergency and humanitarian response, community stabilization programming, and other migration-related matters. Throughout his career, Mr. Taha delivered frequent interviews to prominent news agencies and media outlets including CNN, BBC, ZDF, Business Today, and others.

His current research focus is how to support Governments on both sides of the Mediterranean in capitalizing on demographic transitions for mutual social and economic benefits through well-managed human mobility.

Mr. Taha is an Egyptian and Italian national, and has three children.
