About The Speaker

Claire de Braekeleer

Claire de Braekeleer is Director Partnerships, leading on corporate and foundation relationships, business pursuit and internal communications for the British Council in Egypt. Claire moved to Cairo from Moscow (2012-14), where she was latterly Deputy Director, British Council Russia, overseeing an active portfolio across Education, English and Arts. Prior she was Head of Arts, running a major cultural programme, with highlights including Tate’s Pre-Raphaelites exhibition at the Pushkin Museum; the Benjamin Britten centenary; the Royal Shakespeare Company and Sadler’s Wells at the Chekhov Festival; and a literary series with Granta’s ‘Best of Young British Novelists’ past and present, featuring Martin Amis’s first visit to Russia. Starting her career at the British Council’s Creative Economy team in London (2005-11), she managed the Young Creative Entrepreneur awards, a scheme for innovative entrepreneurs in the creative industries across 50 countries, and developed cultural policy projects in East Asia, China, Russia and the EU. Claire has an MA in Cultural and Creative Industries from King’s College London.
